Emmanuel BALLERY
Head of Engineering · Software Architect · ex-CTPO
Engineering degree in Cognitive Engineering (ENSC – Bordeaux INP) · 15+ years in web engineering
Head of Engineering and software architect with 15 years of experience. I led technology and product at a B2B SaaS company serving LVMH, Lacoste and Le Coq Sportif, co-founded a SaaS ERP startup and run my own consultancy. I build and organize engineering teams, modernize platforms and bring generative AI into everyday software delivery.
Open to a permanent engineering leadership or software architect position; I still take on freelance work through x10. Based in Metz, France: on-site or hybrid in Metz or Luxembourg, hybrid in Paris, or fully remote.
Experience
Senior Full-Stack Engineer · Tech Lead
Mevia — Alumnforce (Paris) — Alumnforce, a SaaS platform for alumni network management used by 350 institutions. Fully remote (based in Metz), in a role I chose for its hands-on technical impact: one of four senior engineers on the technical leadership group, which shares technical governance in place of a single CTO.
- Shape the technical direction of the Alumnforce platform (architecture, scalability, security).
- Set engineering standards for CI/CD, testing, code quality and observability.
- Applied AI: built, in one month, an AI plugin integrated with Jira, Jenkins and GitLab that works through tickets, keeps the product team in the loop and opens merge-ready MRs; every PR is now AI-assisted.
- Go-to Symfony expert across teams; mentor developers.
Chief Technology & Product Officer (CTPO)
Sinfin — SaaS PIM/DAM/CMS/OMS company (Troyes) — Owned the technical strategy and the modernization of a business-critical, high-volume SaaS platform for retail.
- Scope: demanding enterprise clients (LVMH — over 1M product data points validated daily, Lacoste, ESTAC, Le Coq Sportif and others), under a contractual 99% availability SLA.
- Led and reorganized a team of 10+ engineers; built a strong engineering culture around code review, pair programming and shared standards.
- Architecture: migrated the legacy stack to Symfony, React and API Platform in 4 months, one client at a time, with zero downtime; cut AWS costs by over 70% (monthly bill down more than 3×).
- DevOps: CI/CD on every MR and production tag (Docker, AWS, Azure) — lead time cut from several weeks to under 24 hours, on-demand deploys in under a minute, 300+ deployments in 2 years.
- Product: kept the technical roadmap aligned with business goals.
Co-founder & CTO
Timcity — Real-estate SaaS startup (Paris) — Designed and built a full real-estate ERP from scratch (rental management, property management, accounting): onboarded a property developer's 26 project companies — full accounting and construction tracking — within a few months.
- Tech strategy: full ownership of architecture and technology choices; designed a secure REST API.
- Delivery: took the product from MVP to production; set up QA tooling and the local development environment.
- Business: turned legal and accounting requirements directly into product features; also ran the company's administration and day-to-day management.
Senior Web Architect & Consultant
x10 — Clients: Orange, CNRS, Apperture, Moria, URGO — Full-time independent consultant: technical consulting, audits and complex development for enterprise, healthcare, industrial and small-business clients. Ran the business as well as the engineering, with a focus on quick, measurable ROI for clients.
- Orange (repeat client since 2015): internal mapping and ticketing tools; OpenShift infrastructure maintenance.
- Healthcare and industry (Moria, URGO, through Apperture): applications built to strict traceability standards.
- Audits and teaching: code audits and performance tuning for small businesses; taught modern architectures and DevOps at HITEMA for 3 years (4 cohorts).
Full Stack Web Engineer / R&D
DGSE — French foreign intelligence service, Ministry of the Armed Forces (Paris) — Tech lead for a team of about ten, building analysis tools in a classified environment.
- Security: built software under strict requirements (encryption, audit trails, compartmentalization).
- Standardization: created shared internal libraries to unify development across the department.
Full Stack Web Engineer
Domicalis — e-health SaaS company (hospital at home) — Designed a SaaS platform to coordinate care for hospital-at-home patients.
- Architecture & product (CTPO role): designed the platform core, integrated heterogeneous data feeds (connected medical devices), safeguarded patient-data integrity and turned clinical needs into specifications and a usable UX.
- Management: day-to-day lead of a 10-person team; owned development processes and quality.
